Long Awaited Cold Front Blesses Aussie Ski Resorts With Fresh Snow

The highly anticipated storm has finally arrived in Australia, transforming the ski resorts into a magnificent winter wonderland. After a disappointing opening weekend where most resorts were unable to operate their lifts due to insufficient snow, Mother Nature has graciously intervened and unleashed a powerful cold front. Among the resorts, those in Victoria have received the largest snowfall, with Falls and Hotham accumulating more than 25cm (10 inches) of fresh snow, complemented by the artificial snow produced by their snow guns.

With this significant snowfall, we can confidently anticipate that the chairlifts at Falls Creek, Hotham, Perisher, and Thredbo will commence operations towards the end of this week. The dedicated teams of groomers and mountain operators will work diligently to prepare the slopes, ensuring optimal conditions for skiers and snowboarders.

Victoria

Falls Creek: 26cm / 10”

Hotham: 27cm / 10”

Mt Buller: 8cm / 3”

Mt Baw Baw: 3cm / 1”

New South Wales

Thredbo: 25cm / 10”

Perisher: 20cm / 8”

The most exciting aspect of this cold front is that it's just the beginning of a series of fronts. According to OpenSnow's forecast, a more robust system is expected to arrive early next week and persist for approximately five days. This upcoming weather pattern bodes well for the ski resorts, as it will provide ample snowfall and ideal conditions. With this extended period of snowfall, we can anticipate the resorts to reach full operational capacity by the beginning of July.
