Australia

When people first begin to speak of Australia ski resorts are typically not at the top of any tourist list, this is reserved for golden beaches that stretch for miles or the famous rock rising from the desert known as Uluru. However, Australia does have a mountain range in the lower eastern corner and each winter season the peaks of these mountains get covered in a reasonable amount of fresh snowfall.

The Snowy Mountain range in New South Wales is home to 4 great ski resorts each with their own unique character and charm. If you are a keen skier with a tonne of technical skills who is looking for long vertical then Thredbo is going to be where you want to visit, otherwise if you are looking for great family fun with lots of mellow terrain then Perisher and Charlotte Pass are where you want to focus your attention. Rising up to well over 2,000m (6,565ft) the ski resorts are blessed with over 3m (120”) of fresh snow and the snowmaking teams across all the resorts work hard each winter season to ensure the aussie ski resorts are a winter wonderland.

Further south the Australian Alps range continues in to the Victorian High Country which is home to another 4 great ski resorts which serve as the winter home to many riders from across the state and also interstate. Falls Creek and Hotham are tucked up high in the state of Victoria and are the largest ski resorts found in the state plus they are home to the most snow fall. Hotham has an easterly facing aspect which means when the storms roll in from the south the snow is deposited deep into the gully’s and the fresh powder last longer. A little further south and closer to the major city of Melbourne you will find Mt Buller and Mt Baw Baw which are the family first snow destinations in Australia. Many children across the state first learn how to ride on ski’s or a snowboard at either two of these resorts and they have a unique charm and homely feel.
