It’s been a super dry start to the 20/21 season in Utah as the snow levels are shockingly low for this time in the season. Being January there should be storm after storm lined up with good 10+ inch drops (per day) however the storms don’t seem to exist this year. Being a La Nina season there was an expectation we could see over 600 inches for Alta and Snowbird. Mother nature might need to pull a rabbit out of a hat to achieve those numbers. We visited Salt Lake city and the Utah ski resorts this time last year and it was a polar opposite situation, we remember the two Cottonwood canyons being closed for days due to avalanche danger and also SLC getting record breaking snowfall down in the city. Here is a snap shot from KSL.com showing just how dismal the snowpack situation is.
