Big Sky Montana is no stranger when it comes to pushing the boundaries of a ski resort and they have not been holding back when it comes to capital investments for the future. Over the summer of 2021 the resort has been a buzz with changes before they welcome back riders in late November. Anyone who had visited the resort in late summer would have likely heard the whirl of many helicopters nuzzling back and forth as the new towers are put into place for what will be the fastest 6 person chairlift in North America.

Swift Current Six will be replacing the existing Swift Current Quad lift which can be found rising from the centre of the main mountain village. Work on the new chairlift first began in the summer of 2020 however due to the ongoing pandemic and supply issues Big Sky only focused on pouring the concrete foundations for the summit chair barn and lift station. The chair barn will house all 126 chairs every night, protecting them from weather and giving them a longer lifespan over the years. Chairs are automatically stored at night and reloaded onto the cable in the morning. In 2018 Big Sky opened their first 8-person chair Ramcharger which also heads up the mountain from the centre of the village however Ramcharger moves riders in the opposite direction. The upgrade from quad chairlift to the new Swift Current Six will increase uphill capacity out of the mountain village base area by 50% and give visitors unparalleled comfort. The new chairlift will have the signature Big Sky Blue bubble hoods and include new wide and most importantly heated seats. Big Sky can get super cold and for those riders who are new to the mountain or not equipped with the latest Gore-Tex will appreciate the heated seats.
