Perisher’s Legendary Ski Tube Gets A Glow Up

The Skitube is a mountain rack-railway that was designed by the Swiss and is located in Perisher, Australia. The railway system transports skiers from Bullocks Flat, situated below the natural snow-line outside the Kosciuszko National Park, to Perisher Valley. Additionally, from Perisher Valley, a second train is available to take passengers to Blue Cow. The Skitube has been in operation since 1987, and it is the most popular mode of transportation for people looking to reach the Perisher Ski Resort. The railway can transport 4,500 passengers per hour up the mountain.

After 36 years of operation, the Skitube required an update, and artists Mike Shankster and Arina Apostolova were commissioned to spruce up the train's exterior. Mike Shankster, who grew up in the Perisher Valley, collaborated with Ukrainian artist Arina Apostolova to adorn two Skitube alpine railway carriages with a mural inspired by native fauna. Apostolova, who is a trained professional architect, has also created canvas paintings and large-scale murals in Ukraine, China, and Australia.

This season, the exterior of two Skitube carriages looks different than before thanks to the colourful refurbishment by the artists. The carriages feature a mural of native fauna and are easy to spot during the winter ski season. The Skitube remains an essential mode of transportation for people looking to reach the Perisher Ski Resort, and the updated exterior is sure to enhance the passengers' overall experience.

Ariana shared the outcome on her Instagram Page, and it looks fantastic! We cannot wait to see it in person.
