With a base altitude of 1260m (4134 ft) and a summit altitude of 1960m (6102 ft) Treble Cone offers a vertical drop of 700m (1968 ft) which means Treble Cone has the highest lifted elevation the longest vertical drop of any resort in the southern alps region.

Treble Cone is not known to be beginner resort or a place to learn how to ski however Treble Cone resort knows that you have to offer some beginner areas for everyone. 10% of the terrain is set aside for beginners and this can be found at the base area. Once riders are confident on their feet and the surface lifts then they can progress up to Home Basin Express quad chair when the long, clean and drawn out run named Easy Rider zig zags its way back to the base area.

Intermediate riders will fall in love with Treble Cone and everything it has to offer. After riding up the Home Basin Express chair and heading straight to the right-hand side riders can find Main street which is a great decent back to the base area with incredible views of the surrounding mountain range and Lake Wanaka. Riders looking to head out to the other basins in the resort will need to make their way over to Saddle Track run which will take them over to the Saddle Basin Quad. The Saddle Basin Quad chair has two incredible blue runs making their way from the top back to the bottom. To the left of the chair (whilst riding up) is South Ridge run which is an incredible blue run and always groomed to perfection. To the right of the chair is Upper High Street which connects to Saddle Back which is a blue run which takes riders around the edges of the Saddle Basin area.

Advanced or Expert rider? This is where Treble Cone really steeps up their game as a resort. Taking a look at the trail map its covered in red run (black diamonds for non-kiwi riders) and these runs are faces and chutes galore right across the basins that make up the resort. Getting off the Home Basin Express chair and heading to the right will take advanced riders over to the Matukituki Basin region, this area is the far right of the resort and offers great technical chutes which connects back to blue runs down to the base area. Advanced riders looking to step up their progression of wanting more of a challenge should head over to the Powder Bowl Chutes, which on a powder day their name showcases their fame and then the Saddle Basin to the right of the Saddle Basin quad chair. Runs like Cloud Nine and Super pipe will keep riders coming back for more all day long.

For riders who fit into the Expert category will love using their skills at some of the most technical inbound terrain in the South Island. Those looking to earn their turns will enjoy the hike up to the summit through the entry gates where you can gain an extra 120m of vertical and hit up the summit slopes. For those wanting to access their turns and then have to hike out will find themselves spending the day in the Motatapu Basin, entry is via the gates off the South Ridge blue run. There is so many options in the Motatapu Basin that these double black diamond runs just have numbers or they are named No Man’s Land and The Fickle Fingers of Fear. Those names alone will keep any non-confident rider out of this area. Keep in mind this area can only be hiked out and riders should never enter this area alone.
