Alyeska Mountain Resort
The idea of the ski resort first started to circle the small Alaskan town of Gridwood. It was not long before the residents were all supportive of the idea and the donations arrived to purchase the land where Alyeska resort can currently be found. The first variation of the small ski hill came to life and since 1954 through to today Alyeska Mountain resort has continued to grow into the largest ski resort in Alaska.
Known today as the ‘Steep and Deep’ of the north thanks to being home to the world’s longest double black diamond ski run and seeing an average snowfall which exceeds 650” most winter seasons.
As soon as winter kicks off Alyeska is traditionally an early opener where the 7 lifts start to spin giving riders access to 76 marked runs across the resort which covers 1,610 acres of rideable terrain.
Home to one of the few Aerial Tramways found in North America the Alyeska Tram is famous in Alaska and in 2020 got a refurb to now take 60 passengers at a time. Alyeska Resort Aerial Tram is able to get advanced and expert riders quickly up to the top of the lifted part of the resort where they can also access the upper Headwall and Glacier bowl.
Towering above the local town of Alyeska and Gridwood, AK the ski resort rises from 229ft to a highest lifted point of 2,756ft which gives riders a vertical of 2,526ft. Confident riders can continue higher in the resort boundaries with the correct gear and the stamina to hike the summit of Alyeska Peak which will take them up to 3,939ft.
