    The Overview

Skiliftkarussell Winterberg ranks as the largest ski area in North Rhine-Westphalia's Sauerland region, offering 27.5km of varied terrain across multiple interconnected slopes. This popular resort combines excellent learning areas with challenging runs, making it ideal for families and groups of mixed abilities. Despite its relatively low altitude, Winterberg delivers reliable snow conditions throughout winter, with exceptional grooming maintaining quality pistes even during busy periods.

    The Terrain

27 runs across 27.5 km of piste

Skiliftkarussell Winterberg is among the busiest ski areas in northern Germany, with 27 runs over 27.5 kilometres between 630 and 820 metres. The vertical is only 190 metres, so the appeal is variety rather than height. About half the terrain is beginner at 51%, with 44% intermediate and 5% advanced. A dense lift system, led by seven six-seat chairs, four quads, two eight-seaters and a scattering of tows, links separate slopes across the Winterberg hills, and skiers hop between them instead of settling on one long descent.

Because the hills sit close together, a day here means lapping Herrloh, Poppenberg, Bremberg, Kappe and Kahler Asten, each with its own character. Floodlit skiing on chosen evenings is a big part of the draw, and the gradients are kind enough that most slopes feel manageable after dark. It is a strong match for beginners, school groups and intermediates who enjoy mileage on short pistes. Advanced skiers will find little steep pitching, so this is about fast chairs, plenty of laps and convenient day trips from the Ruhr and Rhineland.
