Early this week we saw that our friends over at PowderChasers reporting a huge storm system on the forecast and this morning we opened our OpenSnow app to see these forecast have increased. We took a look at who is going to get the goods out of this storm system and it appears like the storm is just going to stop on top of Wyoming and Utah and just dump endless amounts of snow.California will pick up some good totals as they catch the edges of the storm which will add to the base preparations as many of the resorts in the region edge closer to their opening dates. The resorts across Utah and Wyoming are still planning on opening near the middle the end of November but we could see the largest terrain openings in a while with the likes of Solitude and Brighton possibly opening with all lifts on their first day, this is just an estimate or maybe a dream of ours.

Grand Targhee Forecast

Jackson Hole is set to see 54” (137cm) of snow across the next ten days, these estimates are for a mid mountain location so the summit regions of the resort could see larger snowfalls + when you add in the wind and how it will blow the snow around the resort we are guessing that opening day will be one for the record books.

UtahThe whole Wasatch front is the real winner of this storm cycle and if these forecast come to fruition we should see Snowbird collecting 67” (170cm), Alta coming in with 66” (167cm) and Brighton collecting 57” (144cm) which are all massive amounts of snow to fall across the resort prior to opening.

When you look at the 30” inches that has already fallen across many parts of the Wasatch ranges we would assume the resorts are nearly ready to get those lift spinning, we certainly feel for the mountain team who are still busy trying to put the finishing touches on the new lift upgrades happening across Alta ski area. California Closing out our mini report we took a look at the larger and higher resorts in California and can see that there is 35” (88cm) of snow in the forecast for Palisades Tahoe and 36” (91cm) on its way for Mammoth Mountain. Mammoth Mountain already has a great base and decided to open early, the mountain is spinning lifts from today and this 36” of snow will allow them to safely open much more terrain. Will we see top to bottom riding at Mammoth by mid November?
