Following a massive earthquake, large areas along the coast of Japan are facing evacuation orders due to a looming tsunami threat. The western coast of Japan is particularly at risk, with a significant tsunami warning in place. This comes after a powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake hit the central region of the country. Residents in ski areas such as Nagano and Niigata Prefectures are being advised to remain indoors for safety. Additionally, Hakuba Goryu ski resort has suspended its night skiing activities and cancelled the upcoming sunrise morning session to prioritise the safety of its guests. These quakes affected the coastal areas of Ishikawa and Niigata prefectures. The most severe of these quakes was later confirmed to be of a 7.5 magnitude.The impact of the earthquake has been immediately felt, with the first tsunami waves, already over a meter high, hitting the central coast of Japan. The country's meteorological agency anticipates more waves in the hours to follow. The disaster has also led to widespread blackouts and damaged water mains. Major roads have been closed due to damage, including cracks.Tsunami warnings extend to regions as far north as Hokkaido and down south to Kyushu Island. The national broadcaster NHK TV is actively urging people to seek safety in higher grounds or upper floors of sturdy buildings, emphasising the importance of life over property. "Your home and belongings are precious, but your lives are of utmost importance," one of the presenters emphasized to the viewers.
