Leitner Upgrades Chairlifts at Four Austrian Resorts This Summer

Four Austrian resorts are getting new lifts from Leitner this summer

Despite being deep in the off-season, Austrian resorts are having a busy summer on the lift-building front. Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, Kreischberg, Glungezer, and Venet Bergbahnen are each getting upgrades from Italian ropeway manufacturer Leitner, ranging from new high-capacity chairlifts to the modernisation of a historic tramway. "By combining innovation, efficiency and passenger comfort, these projects represent the next generation of ropeway solutions for mountain destinations," Leitner said.

New 8-seaters at Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis and Kreischberg

In Tyrol, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is replacing its old six-seat Planseggbahn chairlift with a detachable 8-seater of the same name, lifting capacity to 4,000 people an hour with heated seats, weather protection bubbles, child-safe safety bars, and a faster ride. The station also runs on Leitner's LeitPilot system, which uses sensors and cameras to support autonomous operation. In central Austria, Kreischberg is replacing an ageing two-seater with a new detachable eight-seater called Rosenkranz, also rated at 4,000 people an hour with heated seats and high-comfort chairs.

A first-of-its-kind lift at Glungezer, and a historic tramway refresh

Glungezer is getting Austria's first lift built on Leitner's new ROPERA system, designed for quieter running, better worker safety, and lower life-cycle costs through a new tensioning system and modular station design. The six-seater will connect the former Kalte-Kuchl valley station area to the Schartenkogel summit, replacing the old two-seat Schartenkogel chairlift and the long-since-dismantled Kalte Kuchl drag lift. At Venet Bergbahnen, the historic Venetbahn tramway - which opened in 1968 and carries skiers and hikers 3,500 metres to the 2,208 metre summit of Krahberg - is getting new 44-seat cabins, a barrier-free bottom station, and technical upgrades to improve performance in windy conditions.
