Ponte di Legno Tonale to Open Two New 10-Person Gondolas for 2026/27

Two of Ponte di Legno Tonale's oldest lifts are coming down this year

The ski area spanning Ponte di Legno and Passo Tonale is replacing two ageing lifts with matching 10-person gondolas from Leitner in a single winter - the Corno d'Aola gondola above Valbione and the Valbiolo gondola at Passo Tonale. Both projects are aimed at making the area faster, more comfortable, and more accessible from next winter, with construction already underway on both fronts through to autumn.

Corno d'Aola: Valbione to 2,120 metres in 6.5 minutes

The new Corno d'Aola gondola replaces both the existing chairlift and the Angelo T-bar, starting at Valbione and climbing to the Corno d'Aola summit at 2,120 metres. A mid-station is being built at the current Rifugio Petit Pierre, letting riders get off partway and reach different parts of the ski area from a single lift rather than needing separate ones. The full run to the top will take about 6.5 minutes - a solid step up on the current setup - and the project follows an earlier reported 22 million euro investment. Non-skiers will also be able to reach the upper mountain comfortably for the first time.

Valbiolo's turn at Passo Tonale

On the Passo Tonale side, the historic Valbiolo chairlift is being pulled out entirely and replaced by a 10-person gondola, with the new mountain station going in next to Malga Valbiolo - a popular stop for both winter and summer visitors. The new lift will carry more people per hour than the current one, though exact capacity and travel-time figures haven't been released yet. Work began in May and is due to run through to autumn, with both this lift and Corno d'Aola on track to open for the 2026/27 winter season and to keep running through summer, giving families and pedestrians easier, better-protected access to the mountain year-round.
