Piani di Bobbio is Lombardy's closest real ski area to Milan, with 35 kilometres of piste across 17 runs between 1,340 and 1,950 metres. The 610-metre vertical is compact, but the grading has a surprising edge: 43% beginner, 29% intermediate and 28% advanced, leaving the middle band thinner than usual. A large beginner share sits on the open plateau at the top of the Barzio gondola, while the advanced runs drop steeply from the ridge. Chairs, drags and a gondola cover the network, and the link to the Valtorta side adds a second set of slopes on the same pass.

For stronger skiers, the black runs on the Oscellera and Valtorta sides are the highlights, and they will feel properly steep after a morning on the plateau. Intermediates may find the narrow middle band limiting, so progress carefully. There is no freeride terrain to speak of. Piani di Bobbio suits beginners and families wanting a short trip from Milan, as well as confident skiers who want a few steeper pitches without leaving Lombardy. Piani di Bobbio typically operates from early December through early April, with the 2025-2026 season running from 6 December 2025 to 6 April 2026. The resort benefits from its protected position within the Valsassina valley, receiving consistent snowfall enhanced by comprehensive snowmaking that ensures reliable coverage from opening day. Average annual snowfall reaches 350cm, with the snowiest period occurring during the first week of February when the area typically receives 32cm across 2-3 snowy days.

Peak snow conditions prevail from January through March, with early season operations concentrating around the central plateau before expanding across the entire network by Christmas week. The north-facing slopes of Piani di Ceresola preserve snow particularly well, often maintaining ideal conditions whilst lower elevation areas struggle. February delivers optimal powder skiing opportunities, particularly on shaded slopes, whilst March brings classic spring skiing with firm morning snow and increasingly comfortable temperatures.

The resort averages 66 sunny days per season, with December being the sunniest month offering approximately 18 clear days. The combination of protected valley position, modern snowmaking infrastructure, and predominantly north-facing terrain ensures Piani di Bobbio maintains reliable conditions throughout the winter despite its relatively modest elevation.
