    Tukino Lift System

Two nutcracker rope tows serve Tukino's terrain, maintaining the traditional club field character while providing access to excellent skiing and riding opportunities. The main tow rises 400 vertical meters, opening up expansive volcanic terrain and numerous natural features. This classic lift system, though requiring initial familiarization, rewards visitors with quick access to uncrowded slopes and pristine snow conditions.

    Location & Getting There

Accessed via the Desert Road (State Highway 1), Tukino sits within the Tongariro National Park, offering a unique perspective of Mt Ruapehu's eastern face. The 4WD access road leads to the day lodge at 1,700 meters, where expansive views stretch across the Central Plateau to Lake Taupo. This remote setting, combined with the volcanic environment, creates an unforgettable mountain experience distinct from other New Zealand ski areas.

    Season Info

The winter season typically extends from July through October, with the eastern aspect often capturing excellent snow from both northerly and southerly weather systems. The volcanic terrain requires minimal snow coverage to create good skiing conditions, while the high altitude helps preserve snow quality. The field's location away from prevailing winds frequently offers skiing opportunities when other areas are impacted by strong weather.
