Loon Mountain Commences New South Peak Expansion

Loon Mountain's South Peak Expansion 2, commonly known as Electric Boogaloo, has commenced with impressive progress. Loon Mountain Resort recently reported that the construction of new trails and lifts for beginner and intermediate skiers is underway. As of now, the clearances of runs are complete, which skiers on Escape Route or Cruiser trails can attest to. The components for the new quad chairlift from Doppelmayr and snowmaking pipes have also arrived on-site, indicating a promising start to the project, even though it is only March. The expansion, set to offer 30+ acres of skiable terrain, will substantially increase beginner and intermediate runs on South Peak. The project will boost the resort's current small number of easy runs by 50%, and the area will also have fully automated snowmaking technology and frost-free pipes. The terrain pod will be served by a Doppelmayr Alpenstar quad-CLF chairlift with a loading conveyor that will transport riders up to the Cruiser trail. Surface lifts may be added to the area, but it remains unclear whether this will be done for the 2023-24 season or at a later time. Additionally, the expansion aims to increase the South Peak Resort's real estate development. Currently, only 30% of the potential development at South Peak has been fulfilled, implying that more homes, townhomes, and condominiums will be added in the future.

Loon has made a donation to this organization which is one of the U.S. National Forest’s official reforestation partners. This ensures that more trees are planted than were removed from the site. Some of the lumber was chipped and sent to a local biomass plant to be converted to energy while the rest was sent to local mills.
