How is it possible for Killington, Vermont to offer skiing all the way through May and into June? The answer is quite straightforward. They continuously cover a trail called Superstar with artificial snow throughout the season. Every time the conditions are right to blow snow you know that the snow making team at Killington are pumping it onto Superstar, top that off with the 194” of natural snowfall the resort has seen over the season you have the makings of a brilliant spring skiing season. In anticipation of spring operations, the trail maintenance team has recently measured the amount of snow that has accumulated on Superstar. The current amount of snow, which is a whopping 364 inches, is unbelievable! That translates to over 30 feet of primarily artificial snow. It's possible that Superstar has the deepest snowpack of any trail in the world. Alta has reported an enormous natural snow base depth of 225 inches, but that's still 100 inches less than what Superstar at Killington has. Killington is the only resort on the entire east coast that consistently remains open until May, with last season's closing date being June 4th.
