Reed Hastings has become the majority owner of Powder Mountain after a substantial $100 million investment, marking a new chapter for the renowned mountain resort known for its limited daily lift ticket availability and spacious visitor experience. Hastings and his wife, Patty, are deeply fond of the unspoiled powder, extensive terrain, and tight-knit community at Powder Mountain, and their investment aims to enhance these unique qualities. They plan to achieve this by improving accessibility, bolstering infrastructure, and maintaining the resort's uncrowded ambiance. The transformative vision for Powder Mountain is already underway, with several improvements scheduled for the upcoming winter season. These enhancements include opening access to 500 acres of challenging backcountry terrain, called DMI (Don't Mention It), reachable only through guided experiences. Additionally, there will be a new network of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails, a warming hut, and an activity centre known as the Launch Pad Yurt offering various winter activities. Moonbike tours on electric snow bikes will also be introduced.
