Snowbasin Auctions Historic Becker Chairlifts

Snowbasin Ski Resort in Ogden, Utah, is offering skiers and riders a unique opportunity to own a piece of local skiing history. The resort is auctioning off 117 triple chairlifts from the Becker lift, which is being replaced with a new high-speed detachable quad this summer. These chairs, installed in 1986, have carried countless skiers up the slopes and now could become part of someone's home or business decor.

The Becker lift has a rich history tied to Ogden's skiing legacy. It was named after Gustav 'Gus' Becker, a key figure in developing winter sports in the area. Becker, who co-founded the Becker Brewing and Malting company, chaired the Ogden Winter Sports Commission in 1929. His efforts led to the construction of Becker Hill, which at the time boasted the world's longest ski jump.

The auction serves a dual purpose. It not only allows ski enthusiasts to acquire a memento but also supports a good cause. All proceeds from the sale will go to the Snowbasin Sports Education Foundation. This organisation aims to create opportunities for local youth to develop as athletes and community members through participation in winter sports.

The timing of this lift replacement is significant with Snowbasin is preparing to host events for the 2034 Winter Olympics, continuing Ogden's long-standing connection to winter sports on a global stage.

Interested buyers have until April 15th to place their bids on these historic chairs. The 1986 WSO Stadeli triple chairs are being sold as-is, offering a genuine piece of ski resort equipment. This auction presents a rare chance for ski enthusiasts to own a tangible part of Ogden's skiing heritage while supporting future generations of winter sports athletes in the community.
