Castle Mountain

Castle Mountain Resort isn’t run by accountants working for some mega-corporation. It’s owned and operated by skiers who are driven by adrenaline, not profit. They believe in dry powder snow and challenging terrain, mix the two together and you have Castle Mountain.

Being only about 100kms north of the US border this makes Castle Mountain the largest resort this far south in Alberta. Offering up more than 3,500 acres of rideable terrain and an average snowfall of 900cm Castle Mountain resort is huge and has something to offer every kind of rider. It’s also is home to North America’s only resort-based Cat Skiing operation, yes that’s inbounds Cat Skiing.

In true Canadian style there are a number of accommodation options located at the base, however this is a local style mountain and doesn’t have the glitzy villages of the other resorts. For those who are willing to commute there is a township of Pincher Creek, AB located 40 minutes down the road where you can find more accommodation options and all the extras your need whilst travelling.

Castle Mountain Lift System

Looking at the trail map explains Castle Mountain, long chairs elevating out of the main village area in different directions heading up to the high alpine where powder filled bowls await the riders. Two triple chairs head up from the village high into the alpine offering a plethora of options to ride back to base.

The tamarack double chair takes adventurous riders up to the summit of the resort where the only option down is black diamond runs in the bowls.

Not the newest infrastructure however in true local mountain vibe it does the job and gives you more time to spot your line from the lifts.

Castle Mountain Snow

Castle Mountain resort is located in the Westcastle Valley of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta, so they don’t get much snow……..

Who are we kidding, it dumps powder here all season long from November through to April. The Rocky Mountains are home to hundreds of ski resorts and that’s because the snow is so good.

On average Castle Mountain gets pummelled by 900cm / 350 inches of clean powdery Alberta snow and when it fills in the bowls it’s a rider’s paradise. As they say themselves, they are driven for Powder, not profit.
