Marmot Basin

Marmot Basin is the only ski resort located in the UNESCO world heritage listed Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. This not only means incredible terrain on offer but also limited crowds and exceptional views and vistas of the infamous Canadian Rocky Mountains.

Offering up 1,674 acres of rideable terrain and a vertical drop of 914 metres this resort will keep every type of rider satisfied whether they are here for an extended stay or having a quick ride whilst exploring Jasper National Park.

Situated just over 4 hours from Edmonton, AB and just under 5 hours from Calgary, AB Marmot Basin is not a day trip kind of resort, however Jasper National Park and the surrounding region is not something that should be done quickly and once you arrive it will be hard to leave.

Marmot Basin Lift System

Marmot Basin lift infrastructure is along the standard lines of what you find in most Canadian resorts, it’s not a mega resort like Whistler or Sunshine village and so they have a small collection of well placed high speed quad chairs to get riders all around the resort.

The Canadian Rockies Express quad is a whooping 2,300m long and takes riders from the base area to near the summit region of the resort in 8 and a half minutes. From this point riders can jump on the longest run in the resort back to the base or dive into one of the many black diamonds heading down under the chair.

All the other chairs are positioned perfectly to access all the resort has to offer.

Marmot Basin Snow

Marmot Basin is one of the highest in both latitude and summit elevation which gives the resort decent snowfall amounts each season. With nearly 4m of white fluffy Alberta powder each year it keeps most of the resort operating at 100% from mid-December right through to the end of March.

The temperatures during the winter months normally don’t go above zero with highs of -5 and lows of up to -20. Whilst this will test most snow gear (we recommend gore-tex) it keeps the snow powdery all day long. With this resort being one of the highest in Alberta it means the season goes from early November all the way through to early May.

Where is Marmot Basin?

Marmot Basin is the ‘local’ ski hill to the town of Jasper (25 minutes up the road) and is located in the famed Jasper National Park.

Jasper and Marmot Basin are situated 370 kilometers west of Edmonton, 404 kilometers northwest of Calgary and 805 km northeast of Vancouver. But in Canadian terms, we like to think we're just down the road.

Edmonton International Airport (EIA) is the gateway to Jasper and our closest international airport. Both Edmonton and Calgary International Airport provide convenient access to the Canadian Rockies.

Once you are in Jasper there are a number of shuttle services that can take you up to Marmot Basin for a fun day of riding.

By Car

Driving to Jasper is beautiful from any direction - indeed the Icefields Parkway from Lake Louise to Jasper has been voted one of the top ten scenic drives in the world! Marmot Basin is located 20km south of Jasper.

Edmonton to Jasper – 4:10 hours

Calgary to Jasper – 4:55 hours

Marmot Basin is in Jasper National Park and you will need to pay a Parks Canada entry fee. It's important to ensure your vehicle is equipped for all types of mountain weather and you are up-to-date on the latest road conditions - visit AMA Road Reports or 511 Alberta.
