Mont Tremblant holds a distinguished place as Eastern Canada's leading ski resort, built around a purpose-designed pedestrian village widely regarded as one of the most successful mountain-village developments in North America. Its considerable scale for the Laurentians, combined with a genuinely varied terrain mix, has built Tremblant's reputation as Quebec's premier four-season destination.
Jo Ryan opened Mont Tremblant Lodge in February 1939, developing a resort that included a summer beach and tennis club alongside 16,500 acres of mountain terrain leased from the Quebec provincial government. Mary Ryan continued operating the resort until selling it to a group of Montreal businessmen in 1966, and ownership changed hands several times over the following fifteen years.
Intrawest acquired Mont Tremblant for an estimated 22 million Canadian dollars in 1991, its first resort purchase after Blackcomb, and invested 48 million Canadian dollars between 1991 and 1995, lifting daily capacity from 8,500 to 14,500 skiers. The company's purpose-built pedestrian village, designed by Eldon Beck, the same architect behind Vail and the original Whistler Village, remains central to the resort's identity. Adult daily tickets run from 149 to 179 Canadian dollars.

Mont Tremblant is the largest area in this batch, with 102 runs over roughly 305 hectares and a vertical of 645 metres, from 230 to 875 metres. Grading is 19% beginner, 30% intermediate, 37% advanced and 14% expert, so more than half the terrain is steep. Seven quad chairs, a triple, three gondolas and three surface lifts connect four distinct sides of the mountain: the South Side, North Side, Soleil and the Edge. It is a lower-vertical mountain by global standards, yet the scale and variety stand out in eastern Canada, and it carries the Ikon Pass.
The Edge and upper North Side hold the harder lines, with Dynamite often described as the steepest run on the hill and Expo a firm test when the moguls build up. The Edge also offers natural terrain and glades for skiers who want something less groomed. Soleil has sunnier, flowing blues with wooded surrounds, and the South Side is the quick option from the pedestrian village. Cold snaps can leave the surface hard and fast, so keep your edges tuned. Mont Tremblant sits in the Laurentians, Quebec, with a base elevation of 230 metres and a summit at 875 metres across a 645-metre vertical drop over roughly 305 hectares. This setting places the resort within a comparatively short drive of Montreal, among the more accessible major resorts in Eastern Canada.

Lucas Pinheiro Braathen led from the first run to win the men’s World Cup opener by 0.48 seconds, with Loïc Meillard second and Marco Odermatt third. Alps Snow Forecast: Up to 64 cm Headed for the High Glaciers as the Snow Line Drops
The Alps are about to swap mild, sunny October weather for something far more wintry. A cold front arrives Tuesday, and SnowStash forecasts have Monterosa Ski out in front with 64 cm over 14 days, ahead of Blatten Belalp (55 cm) and Verbier (43 cm). The snow line should fall below 2000 metres by Wednesday night, and glaciers across Switzerland, Italy and Austria are in line for the best of it. The wind will have a say too.

A large avalanche struck near Laguna del Inca adjacent to Ski Portillo on Saturday afternoon, killing four people and injuring four others. The group were day visitors mountaineering in the backcountry after reportedly being warned about elevated avalanche risk by resort staff.

Zermatt Plans World Cup Downhill Return on the Gornergrat for 2028
Zermatt is having another crack at a World Cup downhill, and this time nobody has to cross a border. Around 13 million Swiss francs is going into rebuilding the Gornergrat piste, including a jump fed by a roughly 300-metre in-run across the roof of the Gornergrat Railway gallery, with the Matterhorn lined up behind it for the TV cameras. First men’s race is pencilled in for March 2028, pending FIS homologation.

Mt. Rose Begins Snowmaking for the 2026-27 Season at Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe’s highest base elevation is paying off early: Mt. Rose has started making snow for 2026-27 after the first flurries and a cold snap. The Nevada resort is backing it with nearly US$2 million in upgrades, including a replacement snowmaking main line, a new PistenBully groomer and restraint bars on every lift. Opening day is yet to be confirmed, though Heavenly and Northstar are already eyeing 20 November.

Mt Hutt Invests NZ$12 Million in Base Area, Tripling Its Sun Deck
Mt Hutt is getting busier, and its base lodge is about to catch up. NZ$12 million goes into a heated sun deck roughly three times the current size (430 m² to 1,300 m²), plus a new toilet block, heated steps down to snow level, extra storage and a new food and beverage outlet. Building starts after the 2026 season, with everything due for winter 2027.
