Some excellent news coming out of Mission Ridge Ski Resort in Washington. With the expansion of their night riding this coming season they will be home to the second longest night riding vertical drop in the country and one of the longest vertical drops in the world.We went night riding in the USA for the first time at Brighton Mountain Resort and it was an incredible experience which has us totally hooked. Full details below from the resort. We are excited to announce the expansion of the night light system to the top of the mountain and the addition of new terrain for night skiing this coming season. After years of planning and preparation, 42 new light poles have been added in the Upper Basin of the resort to open several runs off of the Wenatchee Express chairlift. Topping out at 6,820 feet at the summit of the ski area, the Wenatchee Express will be open during night ski operations this season in addition to Chair 1, Chair 4 and several surface lifts. The increased vertical rise to a total of 2,250 feet will make our night ski operation the second tallest in the country that we’re aware of.On clear nights, you'll have one of the most amazing night views in the state. From the summit, you will see the city lights of Ellensburg to Ephrata and many points further in all directions. This project will offer our night skiing guests more advanced terrain to ski and ride on, as well as provide one of the longest vertical drops for night skiing in the world.The added night ski terrain will be a 78% increase over last season. When combined with a 2019 night ski expansion, we’ve increased terrain open for night skiing by over triple what was available for several decades prior. Skiers and snowboarders can now enjoy turns under the lights on 40 nights this coming season starting December 26th. The standard night schedule will run Wednesday through Saturday from 4 pm to 9 pm through the end of February. In total, 11 runs on over 70 acres of terrain will be lit. Aerial Tram Collides With Crane at Alpe d'Huez: 23 Injured

An aerial tram carrying around fifty passengers struck the boom of a construction crane on the route to Pic Blanc at Alpe d'Huez on Wednesday morning, injuring 23 people, three seriously. The cabin tipped on impact before the operator reversed it to right the car. Most of the injured were treated on site, with five taken to hospital in Grenoble, including a pregnant woman assessed as a precaution.

Pitztal Glacier Set to Reopen for the 2026/27 Ski Season on 26 September

Tyrol's highest ski area is gearing up to open a full month ahead of most of the Alps. The Pitztal Glacier is scheduled to start its 2026/27 season on Saturday 26 September, running through to 2 May 2027, with the lower-altitude Rifflsee area following in December. High-altitude terrain up to 3,440 metres gives the glacier a head start on snow, though as always, the actual opening extent will depend on how September's weather plays out. Early online ski pass bookings can save up to 30%.

Unstable Glacier Above Randa Puts Zermatt-Area Village on Alert

A hanging glacier above the Swiss village of Randa, just south of Zermatt, has been shedding large chunks of ice for weeks, with authorities warning more break-offs are likely. A danger zone has been closed off since June, though officials say the village's 479 residents aren't at risk.
