Skiers and snowboarders in Utah have been keeping a close eye on the snowfall at Alta Ski Area, eagerly anticipating whether the resort would break the all-time snowfall record this weekend. On March 24, 2023, history was made as the resort surpassed the 1981/82 record of 748 inches, much to the delight of snow sports enthusiasts who had flocked to the powder-rich resort nestled in Utah's Wasatch Mountains at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon. The snow is still falling, and the resort is currently in "Interlodge”, which means that all residents, employees, and lodge guests must remain indoors until it is safe to venture outside again. It remains to be seen what the new record will ultimately be, but this snowfall is significant, especially in the era of climate change and with Europe experiencing one of its worst ski seasons in decades.
