Changbai Mountain Resort Expands Winter Sports Offerings

Changbai Mountain Wanda International Resort in China's northeastern Jilin Province is quickly becoming a major player in the country's winter sports scene. The resort, which covers 21 square kilometres at the western base of the Changbai Mountains, is capitalising on its prime location at 42° north latitude to provide reliable snowfall and extended winter seasons.

The ski area boasts over 33 kilometres of trails with a vertical drop of 370 metres. The terrain, designed by Ecosign, the company behind several Olympic venues, caters to a range of skill levels. This season, the resort has introduced new features to enhance its winter offerings, including the Lady Hip-Hop Park for freestyle skiing and snowboarding, and the family-oriented Magic Forest Academy.

Changbai Mountain Resort is part of China's 'Dreamy Ice & Snow' tourism route, a national initiative to boost domestic winter travel. The government anticipates over 500 million winter tourism visits this season, with the sector expected to generate more than CNY 1 trillion in economic output.

The resort is owned by Wanda Group, a major Chinese conglomerate with extensive experience in property and entertainment development. Wanda has transformed Changbai into a year-round destination, complementing its ski facilities with a 20,000-square-metre indoor water park that has received international recognition.

Beyond winter sports, the resort offers a variety of warm-weather activities including luge cart tracks, forest camps, volcanic hot springs, cable car rides, paragliding, and hot air balloon rides. The resort's accommodation options are extensive, with over 3,200 rooms across 10 hotels, including international brands like Park Hyatt, Westin, and Sheraton, as well as Wanda's own hotel brands.

Accessibility is a key advantage for Changbai Mountain Resort. The nearby Changbai Mountain Airport, just 17 kilometres away, offers direct flights from major Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Xi'an, and Harbin. The resort provides complimentary shuttles from the airport to hotel lobbies and base areas.

With its combination of extensive ski terrain, diverse year-round attractions, and substantial accommodation options, Changbai Mountain Wanda International Resort has established itself as a significant winter sports destination in Asia. The resort claims an annual snowfall of 1.8 metres, providing ample natural snow for skiers and riders throughout the winter season.

As China's winter tourism industry continues to grow, Changbai Mountain Resort is well-positioned to meet the increasing demand for high-quality ski and snowboard experiences, supported by modern infrastructure and a range of off-slope activities.
