The planned trail will feature a narrow, off-camber run that winds through wooded areas before concluding with a steep 25-foot near-vertical drop. This addition aims to diversify the resort's trail options and attract more advanced skiers to the area. Construction on the new trail has already begun, with an expected opening during the 2025-26 ski season.

Steeplechase's expansion plans come despite recent challenges, including underwhelming snowfall in the past two winters. The resort has been working on various improvements since its reopening in February 2023, following a period of closure and change in ownership.

To support their growth plans, Steeplechase launched a fundraising campaign on Indiegogo in April. The funds raised will go towards adding new trails, upgrading snowmaking infrastructure, and acquiring additional grooming equipment. Steeplechase Ski Hill has a unique history, originally opening in 1999 with a former church serving as its base lodge. After closing in 2007, the property was purchased in 2016 by Justin Steck, who initially used it for hosting weddings. The gradual revival of the ski resort began with the reopening of the tubing hill in 2021, followed by the return of lift-serviced skiing and riding in 2023. The addition of the new double black diamond trail marks another important step in Steeplechase's ongoing development and its efforts to establish itself as a notable ski destination in Minnesota.
