Copper Mountain has added an extra week to its 2025-26 season, with the Colorado resort now set to close on Sunday, May 3

The resort originally planned to wrap up on April 26 but has pushed back the closing date by a week. Lift tickets for the extended period are priced at US$49.

Copper credits the late finish to snowmaking that began on October 1, combined with the resort's naturally high elevation and favourable terrain orientation. With a base elevation of 2,946 metres and a summit at 3,792 metres, Copper sits higher than many of its Colorado neighbours. The majority of its terrain faces north, which limits sun exposure and helps snow hold its structure deeper into spring. It's a combination that regularly makes Copper one of the first US resorts to start making snow each autumn and one of the later ones to close.

    What's currently open

As of April 17, Copper Mountain reported a 29 inch base with 26 trails and 361 acres of terrain accessible across four operating lifts. The forecast through April 21 shows overnight lows around -16°C with daytime highs in the upper single digits.

    Spring events before the close

The resort's Sunsation Spring Festival runs through the final weekend of April with free live music and après events at Eagle's Landing. Acts across the April 24-26 weekend include Party Pupils, Moon Taxi, and The Record Company.

The headline event is the Skimmy Dippers Dual Pond Skim on Sunday, April 26, where teams of two drop in simultaneously on side-by-side courses featuring a 60-foot rail, jump features, and the obligatory skim across freezing water. Teams are judged on style, creativity, and difficulty, with the winners taking home Copper season passes for 2026-27.

    Where Colorado's season stands

Copper is one of six Colorado resorts still operating. Aspen Mountain and Winter Park are set to close on April 19, with Loveland following on April 26. Breckenridge and Arapahoe Basin are running open-ended closing dates, staying operational as long as conditions allow.
