The festivities have commenced in the Southern Hemisphere with the beginning of the ski season. While Mt Hutt in New Zealand opened recently, it wasn't the first ski field to kick off the season. Manganui took that honour by opening on May 12th, although they had to close shortly after due to melting snow.Currently, Mt Hutt has the Nor'West Express, Summit Six, and Magic Carpet Conveyer lifts up and running. Despite their efforts in snowmaking, they describe the snow base as thin due to a lack of natural snowfall.
