Cypress Mountain Resort Adds $10 Paid Parking for the 2024-25 Season

Cypress Mountain Resort, one of the closest ski resorts to Vancouver, is introducing paid parking for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Starting from opening day, parking in Lots 1, 1A, 2, and 3A will cost $10 CAD. The decision comes in response to the high demand for parking, which often leads to traffic congestion. To ease the parking situation, Cypress will offer a free shuttle service from Lots 2, 3A, and 3B to the ski resort. Additionally, the resort plans to launch a carpooling app to further reduce traffic.

For those who want to avoid the parking fee, free parking options will still be available in Lot 3B and along a portion of the Nordic Area access road. Season and Sky Card pass-holders can park for free but must register their license plates. Ikon pass-holders, however, will need to pay for parking.

While $10 CAD ($7.42 USD) is relatively low compared to other ski resorts, one controversial aspect of the new policy is the lack of refunds if weather conditions prevent guests from reaching the mountain. Cypress addressed this concern on their FAQ page, stating that they won't offer refunds due to poor weather. This policy has sparked some criticism, as many other ski resorts do provide refunds in such situations.

This isn't Cypress's first attempt at paid parking. In late 2020, they introduced a similar system but faced pushback, particularly from BC Parks, leading to a legal dispute with the BC government. Despite the previous challenges, Cypress Mountain Resort is moving forward with the paid parking plan, aiming to improve the overall guest experience by managing parking demand more effectively.
