La Thuile offers 152 kilometres of varied skiing across the Italian-French border, connecting with La Rosière to create the cross-border Espace San Bernardo. The resort spans elevations from 1,450 to 2,800 metres across the Aosta Valley's western extremity, with terrain radiating around Mont Valaisan and the historic Piccolo San Bernardo Pass. Modern snowmaking systems complement natural snowfall that averages 8 metres annually—among the highest in the Alps—ensuring outstanding conditions throughout winter. The area combines extensive intermediate cruising with challenging expert terrain, including World Cup downhill courses and exceptional off-piste opportunities in the Rutor Glacier sector, while maintaining excellent progression terrain for beginners and improvers.

The La Thuile lift system comprises 38 modern installations strategically positioned across both sides of the Italian-French border. The network features the high-capacity DMC gondola providing primary mountain access from the village, complemented by detachable chairlifts with weather protection bubbles serving upper mountain sectors. Recent infrastructure investments have introduced RFID ticketing technology, heated seats on newer lifts, and expanded uphill capacity by 35%, effectively eliminating queues except during peak holiday periods. The system's intelligent design enables excellent circulation throughout the international ski area, with strategic lift placements that facilitate natural progression through increasingly challenging terrain while minimising traversing between sectors.

Location

Positioned 150 kilometres northwest of Turin at Italy's border with France, La Thuile occupies a spectacular valley position at the base of the Little St Bernard Pass in the Aosta Valley. The traditional mountain village preserves authentic Alpine architecture and strong cultural connections to the region's unique heritage, where Italian and French influences create a distinctive character evident in local cuisine and customs. The area's mining history remains visible through carefully preserved industrial archaeology, adding cultural depth to the winter sports experience. Season Info

The La Thuile winter season typically runs from early December through late April, with optimal conditions from January through March. The area's northwestern aspect ensures excellent snow preservation throughout winter, with consistent cold temperatures maintaining snow quality particularly well on higher slopes. Early season operations concentrate around snowmaking-equipped sectors before expanding across the entire network by Christmas week. February delivers peak snow conditions, with fresh powder opportunities maximised by the resort's protected bowl topography and cold temperatures. March brings increasing sunshine hours while maintaining excellent snow coverage, particularly on north-facing slopes like the Belvedere sector.
