Taos Ski Valley, located in northern New Mexico, is one of the top ski destinations in the United States. The resort boasts an impressive 1,294 acres of skiable terrain, 110 trails, and a vertical drop of 3,274 feet. With over 300 inches of annual snowfall and an average of 300 days of sunshine, Taos Ski Valley attracts skiers and snowboarders from all over the world. However, on Saturday, April 1, 2023, the resort faced an unexpected challenge that forced it to shut down for four days. Taos Ski Valley experienced a water distribution system failure, which was caused by the resort's antiquated pipes leaking. The problem resulted in the resort losing water pressure, making it impossible to safely operate critical guest facilities such as bathrooms and food service. Despite the best efforts of the resort's maintenance team, they were unable to fix the problem immediately, and the resort had to close. The news of the closure was a disappointment to the skiers and snowboarders who had planned to spend their Easter long weekend at the resort. The closure affected not only the guests but also the local businesses that rely on the ski industry for their livelihood. However, the resort management team worked tirelessly to find a solution and get the resort up and running as soon as possible. On Thursday, April 6, 2023, Taos Ski Valley announced on its website that it would reopen, much to the delight of everyone involved. The resort's management team worked around the clock to repair the damaged pipes and ensure that the guests' safety was not compromised.
