After experiencing an unprecedented and record breaking amount of snow this season, several ski resorts in Utah have decided to extend their closing dates. However, those planning to visit the mountains should prepare in advance for any potential obstacles they may face, especially when traveling through the cottonwood canyons as they have been closed lately for avalanche mitigation. Out of the 15 resorts in the area, three have already shut down for the season, with Eagle Point being the first to close on April 2, followed by Sundance on April 8, and Beaver Mountain on April 9. In contrast, five other resorts have extended their seasons due to the exceptional snowfall this winter. These include Brighton, Deer Valley, Nordic Valley, and Snowbasin.Solitude Mountain Resort has announced that this will be their lengthiest season on record, as they were able to open early in November 2022, thanks to the early snowfall. Additionally, Snowbird will be the final resort to close on May 31 after receiving over 800 inches of snow throughout the season.
