Lutsen Mountains In Final Stage of Expansion Plan Approval

Lutsen Mountain, which is the largest ski resort in the Midwest, has recently announced that it is currently in the final stage of a 7-year application and review process. The purpose of this process is to obtain approval for a Special Use Permit from the Superior National Forest, which would allow the resort to expand its ski area onto adjacent Forest Service land. The aim of this project is to enhance the overall skiing experience for visitors to Lutsen Mountain, by significantly increasing the amount of skiable terrain available, offering a wider variety of terrain for skiers and snowboarders of all levels, and providing new and improved amenities for guests. The proposed expansion would cover the Eagle and Moose Mountains and would include 324 new acres of skiable terrain, featuring beginner and advanced trails on both mountains. Additionally, the expansion would involve the installation of eight new chairlifts, two new base facilities, an on-mountain chalet on Moose Mountain, and the creation of 1,200 new parking spaces at the resort. If the Ski Area Expansion project is approved, it will be carried out in stages over several years.
