Vail Resorts released its fiscal 2022 third-quarter results yesterday, announcing the projects they will undertake for the 2023-24 season. Attitash plans to replace the slow and outdated Summit Triple with a high-speed quad, pending U.S. Forest Service approval. The current Summit Triple takes around sixteen minutes to reach the summit and frequently suffers from mechanical breakdowns. This follows the upcoming replacement of the East-West double chairlifts with a fixed-grip quad, set to open in the 2022-23 season. The decision to invest in the new infrastructure could be an effort to gain public support for the project, especially as Vail Resorts faces challenges with employee housing in Vail, Colorado, and their new lifts in Park City are facing an appeal that may delay their completion until the 2023-24 season. Although the community has been eagerly waiting for the expansion, Vail Resorts' recent setbacks may have added pressure to make progress. Regardless, the replacement of the Summit Triple is a positive step towards improving the skiing experience at Attitash.
