The North Creek Ski Bowl zone, located at Gore Mountain, New York, is set to undergo a series of exciting developments that will enhance its appeal as a year-round destination. At a recent New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority (Olympic Authority) Board of Directors meeting, two resolutions were approved, paving the way for the construction of a new lodge, a Hudson chairlift, and a unique zip coaster. These projects are expected to revitalise the business community of North Creek and position the North Creek Ski Bowl zone as a premier attraction.Historical Significance and Partnership: Established in 1934, the North Creek Ski Bowl has a rich history and is currently owned by the Town of Johnsburg. Over the years, the Olympic Authority has collaborated with the Town to enhance the facility. They have installed chairlifts, improved trails and snowmaking, expanded the Joe Minder Lodge, and developed a professional Nordic Center. This longstanding partnership has played a crucial role in the Ski Bowl's evolution.

Spanning an impressive 18,300 square feet, the lodge will feature a restaurant and two levels of patios, providing breathtaking slope-side views. Designed to replace the historic lodge that was lost to a fire in 1999, the new facility will offer year-round amenities and become a popular destination for summer activities as well. Another thrilling addition to the Ski Bowl will be the innovative zip coaster. Combining elements of a zip-line and a rail system, this unique attraction promises an exhilarating experience for visitors. The zip coaster will undoubtedly add to the Ski Bowl's appeal and draw in more tourists.Infrastructure and Permits: The progress of these projects faced a temporary setback due to the lack of wastewater infrastructure, which hindered the permitting process. However, the Olympic Authority and the Town of Johnsburg worked together to find a solution. The new lodge will be connected to the Town's new wastewater treatment facility, currently under construction. Grants awarded to the Town of Johnsburg have ensured the timely completion of the treatment facility, anticipated to be finished before the lodge is ready.Benefits to the Regional Economy: The economic impact of the Ski Bowl and the broader Olympic Authority has been substantial. According to the 2022-2023 "Economic Impact Analysis for the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority," the local operational spending and revenues, along with the State's investment, resulted in a direct economic impact of $341.8 million. In the fiscal year 2022-2023 alone, Gore Mountain, a part of the Ski Bowl, generated $31.3 million in direct spending. These figures highlight the importance of continued investment and development in the area.Future Plans at Gore Mountain: Apart from the Ski Bowl developments, Gore Mountain is also focusing on additional projects. The Bear Cub Poma Lift will be replaced with a conveyor-load quad, providing an ideal learning environment for beginners on the Sunway trail. Furthermore, the mountain is making snowmaking improvements, including the addition of new guns and infrastructure on Little Gore Mountain. These initiatives demonstrate the commitment to ensuring exceptional experiences for visitors.
