Snowbird Announces Closing Date For 22/23 Season

Snowbird's historic 2022-23 ski season is drawing to a close this weekend, marking the end of an eventful journey. Recently, the Utah ski resort shared the news of its reopening on June 17th, following a brief hiatus. Regrettably, the waning snowpack has led to the final day of operations being scheduled for Sunday, June 18th. During this time, the Tram and Little Cloud Express will continue to operate, albeit with limited accessibility. Only the Little Cloud terrain pod will remain open, restricting skiers to partial descents. At the end of their day on the slopes, enthusiasts will make their way back up to the tram for transportation to the base area.

Snowbird has witnessed a noticeable decline in measurable snowfall since April. The month of May, in particular, witnessed an unprecedented event in Salt Lake City's weather history. For the first time in the 89 years of recorded data, the city experienced an all-time temperature record. The average May temperature reached 67.2 degrees Fahrenheit, a significant deviation of 5.2 degrees higher than the historical average. Although there exists a notable contrast between Salt Lake City and Snowbird's climate, this exceptional heatwave contributed to numerous days with temperatures above freezing.
