With temperatures dropping and fresh, natural snow blanketing its slopes, Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe in Nevada took a bold step yesterday by activating its snow guns. This timely move positions Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe as the first Lake Tahoe resort to commence snowmaking preparations for the upcoming 2023/2024 winter season, outpacing its California counterparts. “With the cooler weather finally here, we’ve started making snow from the summit down to the base. Conditions will change over the weekend, but this opportunity will help to get our equipment dialled in early, and getting coverage on some key runs is crucial to having the best conditions possible on opening day. Last year, we started making snow on October 22nd, and we plan to take advantage of any chance we get to keep making more!” — Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mt. Rose-Ski Tahoe (@mtroseskitahoe) For context, in the previous year, Mt. Rose embarked on its snowmaking endeavours on October 22nd, 2022, and officially opened its slopes on November 11th. This year, the resort has set its sights on an even earlier opening day, aiming for November 9th. This impressive feat positions Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe as the leader among both Nevada and California resorts. It's worth noting that Mt. Rose – Ski Tahoe boasts the highest base elevation among Tahoe-area ski destinations, standing at approximately 8,260 feet (2,520 meters), with the summit soaring to 9,700 feet (2,955 meters).
