Big Sky Resort, a beloved destination for skiing and snowboarding, is gearing up for another exciting addition to its network. In an announcement made just yesterday, the resort unveiled plans to replace the Six Shooter chairlift with a cutting-edge Doppelmayr D-line high-speed detachable eight-pack bubble chairlift. This development marks a significant leap forward in enhancing the skiing experience at Big Sky and will make the resort the exclusive home to two eight-person chairlifts in North America. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Big Sky Resort (@bigskyresort) The star of this upgrade is undoubtedly the new chairlift's impressive capabilities. Boasting nearly double the uphill capacity of its predecessor, it will effortlessly transport up to 2,745 guests per hour. What's more, the ride is set to be an exciting one, with a swift eight-minute journey time. The chairs themselves have been designed with riders comfort in mind, featuring spacious seating, heated seats, and individual headrests. Safety is paramount as well, with automatically locking safety bars that lower during the ride and rise back up at journey's end. To accommodate the increased flow of eager skiers and snowboarders, the bottom terminal of the chairlift will be relocated approximately forty feet from its current position, providing ample queuing space. However, the alignment of the new chairlift will remain unchanged, delivering riders to the same coveted spot on the mountain. This impressive length will make it the longest eight-person chairlift on the planet.Excitement is building as construction is set to commence in April, with the grand opening slated for December 2024. But the innovation doesn't stop there. Big Sky Resort's future plans include replacing the Explorer chairlift with a gondola, set to open during the 2025-26 season, promising even more exciting adventures for skiers and snowboarders.
