If you've got a need for velocity, this is where you'll want to spend your day.Ruined Castle is renowned for its impeccably groomed runs. The snow grooming team at Falls Creek takes particular pride in maintaining these slopes to perfection, creating a smooth, fast surface that's pure joy to ride. It's no wonder this area is the chosen venue for ski racing and slalom training – the conditions are consistently top-notch.To access this speed demon's paradise, make your way to the top of Eagle Express and then cruise over to the Ruined Castle chair. This lift services five marked trails, each offering its own flavor of high-speed thrills. While the vertical drop might not be the biggest on the mountain, the quality of the runs more than makes up for it.One of the beauties of Ruined Castle is its lap-ability. The runs are just the right length to get your adrenaline pumping without wearing you out, making it easy and fun to ride over and over again. Each lap brings a new opportunity to perfect your technique or simply enjoy the rush of wind on your face.As you carve your way down, take a moment to appreciate the stunning views of the lake and the surrounding Lakeside area of the resort. These interconnected runs represent the holy grail for powder seeker and those who love to venture off the beaten path.Shadow Ridge is your gateway to this secluded run in the trees. To find it, start from either the top of Scott Chair or Eagle Express and head towards the bottom of the Monkey Bar poma. As you approach, keep your eyes peeled for a right turn that'll lead you into this lesser-known area. What makes Shadow Ridge special is its position tucked away among the trees. This natural shelter means that fresh snow tends to stick around longer here than on more exposed runs. On a powder day, you'll feel like you've discovered your own private stash. But the real magic happens when you drop down to the left halfway down Shadow Ridge. This is where you'll find Darkside, a run that lives up to its mysterious name. Darkside sees even less traffic than Shadow Ridge, making it a true hidden gem for those in the know. Both runs offer a thrilling mix of natural features, from perfectly spaced trees to playful rollers and drops. It's the kind of terrain that keeps you on your toes and rewards creativity in your line choice. One word of caution: as you near the end of your run, make sure to take that right turn. Miss it, and you'll find yourself down by the lake, facing a walk back to Scott Chair. But navigate it correctly, and you'll be rewarded with one of the most satisfying rides Falls Creek has to offer.

More than just a single trail, The Maze is a playground of advanced runs that will challenge and delight even the most experienced riders. The heart and soul of The Maze are two legendary runs: Roller Coaster and Valley of the Moon. These trails live up to their names, offering a ride through some of the most exciting terrain on the mountain as they wind through the Australian snow gums. Steep pitches, natural features, and the occasional powder stash make every trip through The Maze a unique adventure. While most of The Maze caters to advanced riders, there's a hidden gem for intermediates called Wishing Well. It's a great way for less experienced skiers and boarders to get a taste of the area without diving into the deep end.Accessing The Maze is an adventure in itself. You can take the traditional route via the Gully Chair and then the Summit Chair, which offers a great warm-up and some spectacular views. But for those seeking the full experience, there's the International Poma. The International Poma is something of a legend in Australian skiing. This surface lift has been challenging riders for generations, demanding a combination of balance, strength, and determination to reach the top. While it doesn't open as frequently these days, catching it on an operating day is considered a badge of honour among Falls Creek regulars.Once you're in The Maze, prepare for a riding experience unlike any other at Falls Creek. The varied terrain, the sense of exploration, and the quality of the snow combine to create runs that you'll want to lap all day long. It's the perfect blend of challenge and reward that keeps skiers and snowboarders coming back year after year.
