Victorian Ski Resorts Face Early Closures as Mount Hotham Announces Final Day Mount Hotham, known as the state’s "powder capital” will stop lift operations after Wednesday, September 4, joining Mount Buller and Mount Baw Baw in early closures this season. Unseasonably warm weather and rainfall have significantly reduced snow cover, making it difficult to maintain safe riding conditions let alone any snow to ride on. Hotham General Manager Tina Burford emphasized safety as the primary concern, stating, "Operational decisions are being made with the safety of our guests and staff at the forefront."
