Mountain Restaurant at Flims-Laax-Falera Destroyed by Fire Before 2024-25 Ski Season
A major fire broke out at the popular Berghaus Foppa restaurant in the Flims-Laax-Falera ski region in Switzerland on the evening of Wednesday, October 2. Located at an elevation of 1,424 meters (4,672 feet), the restaurant served hikers, skiers, and riders year-round. Despite efforts from nearby construction workers and the local fire brigade, the flames spread rapidly, completely destroying the building.

Credit: Kantonspolizei Graubünden The fire department, supported by additional firefighting teams, worked hard to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and forest areas. By midnight, the fire was under control, but an amber watch remained in place until the following day. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, though property damage is estimated to be over CHF 1 million ($1.2 million). The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

It is also considered one of the most reliable resorts for snow. Rumours have circulated about potential acquisitions or partnerships involving Vail Resorts and Alterra, which could expand their European portfolios. The resort is still set to open for the 2024-25 season on November 29.
