Sustainable Lift Technology Transforms Two Premier Swiss Ski Resorts St. Moritz-Corviglia and Arosa Lenzerheide are leading the way in sustainable ski resort operations with major lift upgrades that maximise existing infrastructure. These "retrofit projects" by LEITNER demonstrate how ski resorts can modernise their facilities while minimising environmental impact.
At St. Moritz's Corviglia ski area, home to 155 kilometres of slopes reaching above 3,000 meters, the popular FIS lift is receiving a complete transformation. The upgrade includes replacing the 20-year-old drive system with LEITNER's more efficient DirectDrive technology.
The 6-seater chairlift's bubble chairs are being redesigned to provide a quieter ride, wider seats, and higher backrests for enhanced comfort. “We are convinced that these installations will not only be a milestone in the Swiss ropeway industry but will also serve as a shining example for future projects.” — Markus Sigrist - Sales Manager LEITNER Switzerland

This partnership ensures seamless integration with existing resort operations and eliminates the need for additional staff training. The improved FIS lift maintains its current capacity while delivering better comfort and safety features. The project is on track for its mid-October launch, with installation work completed and chairs already delivered. In Arosa Lenzerheide, one of Graubünden's largest ski resorts, LEITNER is upgrading the "Stätzertäli" 4-seater chairlift with a modern replacement. The project emphasises sustainability by reusing existing tower foundations and infrastructure along the same route. The top station will feature photovoltaic panels for renewable energy generation.

Riders will enjoy premium EVO chairs that elevate the typical chairlift experience to new levels of comfort. Construction is proceeding as planned, with the drive station assembly underway and rope installation scheduled for early October, leading to a planned late October opening. These upgrades represent a growing trend in the ski industry toward sustainable operations and smart infrastructure investment, proving that environmental responsibility and enhanced guest experience can work hand in hand.
