Tragic Accident Claims Young Life at Nevada Ski Resort

The ski community in Nevada is reeling from a devastating accident that occurred at Diamond Peak Ski Resort in Incline Village. On March 29, 2025, a 7-year-old girl from Reno, identified as Adelyn Grimes, lost her life after being struck by a falling boulder. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local skiing community and beyond, prompting discussions about safety measures at ski resorts.

According to reports, the tragedy unfolded around 3:38 pm when the young girl was climbing on a natural slope near the Diamond Peak Base Lodge. Suddenly, a large rock became dislodged and struck her. The Diamond Peak Ski Patrol responded swiftly, providing immediate first aid while emergency services were called to the scene.

Despite the best efforts of the medical team, including responders from the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and Washoe County Sheriff's Office, Adelyn sadly succumbed to her injuries. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that no foul play was involved in this heartbreaking accident.

In response to the incident, Diamond Peak Ski Resort has issued a statement expressing their deep condolences to Adelyn's family, the Sugar Bowl race team, and the entire Lake Tahoe ski racing community. The resort has also made counselling and support resources available to staff affected by the accident.

This tragic event serves as a sobering reminder of the unpredictable nature of outdoor environments, even in managed recreational areas. While ski resorts implement numerous safety measures, natural hazards can still pose risks. As the community mourns this loss, it's likely that discussions will continue about how to further enhance safety protocols at ski resorts to prevent such devastating accidents in the future.

The skiing community stands united in grief, offering support to Adelyn's family and all those affected by this tragedy. As investigations continue, the focus remains on honouring the memory of a young life lost too soon and ensuring the ongoing safety of all visitors to ski resorts.
