Tahoe Ski Resorts Extend Season After Late Snowfall
Northstar California and Kirkwood Mountain Resort have announced a one-week extension to their ski seasons, now closing on April 20. This decision comes after a significant storm system dropped over 75 cm of fresh snow in the Sierra Nevada mountains last week. The new closing date aligns with Heavenly Mountain Resort's previously scheduled end of season, giving skiers and riders additional time to enjoy spring conditions across all three major Tahoe-area resorts.

The recent snowfall has created ideal spring skiing conditions, with a fresh powder base complemented by warmer temperatures and longer days. Tara Schoedinger, Vice President & General Manager of Northstar California Resort, noted that the timing of this snowfall was perfect for extending the season. Both Northstar and Kirkwood are planning special events to celebrate the extended season. Northstar will host live music in the Village on weekends and their Spring It On festival, featuring pond skim and rail jam competitions. Kirkwood will hold the IFSA Junior National Championships from April 11-13, showcasing young talent on challenging runs.

Ricky Newberry, Vice President & General Manager of Kirkwood Mountain Resort, emphasised the opportunity for employees and guests to take advantage of the excellent conditions. Kirkwood's pond skim event is scheduled for April 19, marking a lively end to the season. Meanwhile, Heavenly Mountain Resort will continue its spring atmosphere with DJ sets at various locations and its own pond skim on April 12. The resort will host closing celebrations leading up to the final day. This extension offers skiers and riders an unexpected chance to enjoy additional time on the slopes, with each resort providing a unique blend of skiing, snowboarding, and festive spring events to round out the season.
