Swiss Ski Resort Introduces Advanced Aerial Tramway

The Titlis ski resort in Switzerland has officially unveiled its latest addition, the Titlis Connect aerial tramway. After two years of construction, this new cable car system, developed by Steurer Seilbahnen, was introduced to about 75 guests at a recent ceremony. The Titlis Connect is a key component of the broader TITLIS project, aiming to enhance the resort's infrastructure and accessibility.

The Titlis Connect operates on a single track, running alongside the existing Titlis Rotair cable car. It covers a distance of 1,396 metres, rising 564 metres from its valley station at 2,428 metres above sea level to the mountain station at 2,992 metres. With a maximum gradient of 76 percent, the tramway is designed to handle challenging terrain.

Initially, the Titlis Connect will focus on transporting construction materials and staff for the ongoing TITLIS project. However, it's built with future operations in mind. From summer 2026, it will open to the public, particularly during the temporary closure of the Titlis Rotair for upgrades. The new tramway will play a crucial role in maintaining year-round access to Titlis, especially during annual maintenance of the Rotair system.

The Titlis Connect boasts cutting-edge technology to ensure maximum safety. Frey Stans provided the control system, while Calag Carrosserie Langenthal AG manufactured the cabin, which features mirrored surfaces and a Swiss cross on the floor, echoing the design of the Titlis Rotair. The station construction was a joint effort by ARGE TITLIS, comprising Marti Zentralschweiz, PORR Suisse, and Bürgi Bau. The mountain station's design comes from the renowned architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron.

The Titlis ski resort, located in central Switzerland, is known for its year-round glacier skiing and the rotating Titlis Rotair gondola. The addition of the Titlis Connect further enhances the resort's appeal, promising improved access and a more robust infrastructure for both construction needs and future visitor experiences. This development marks a significant step in the resort's ongoing efforts to modernise and expand its offerings for skiers and riders.
