Homewood's Gondola Project Advances Towards 2026-27 Season
Homewood Mountain Resort is moving forward with its plans for a new gondola, aiming to open for the 2026-27 ski season. The project has cleared several regulatory hurdles, including approvals from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, California Tramway Board, and Placer County. The resort is now focusing on obtaining building permits and planning the construction schedule.
The new gondola will link the lakefront base area to a planned mid-mountain lodge near the current Madden Chair. This addition is set to improve the overall experience for visitors, providing easier access to the slopes and stunning views of Lake Tahoe during the ride. The lift is expected to enhance the resort's offerings for beginners and families by providing access to higher-elevation areas with better snow conditions.
Homewood has already acquired all necessary gondola components, including cabins, towers, terminals, and a generator. These are currently stored on-site or nearby in Sparks, Nevada. The resort plans to begin site preparation, including tree removal and grading, as soon as the final permits are issued.
The gondola project is part of Homewood's strategy to create an improved learning environment for new skiers and families. It will replace the ageing Madden Chair, which will be decommissioned as part of the upgrade.
Homewood Mountain Resort, located on the western shore of Lake Tahoe, is known for its scenic views and family-friendly atmosphere. The new gondola project aligns with the resort's commitment to enhancing visitor experiences while maintaining its unique character. As the project progresses, skiers and riders can look forward to improved access and facilities at this Lake Tahoe ski destination.
