Austrian Ski Resort Modernises with High-Capacity Bubble Chairlifts

Ischgl, a major ski resort in Austria's Tyrol region, is set to significantly upgrade its lift infrastructure. The resort has announced a €50 million investment to replace three existing chairlifts with modern 8-person bubble chairlifts. This move aims to improve guest comfort and increase the resort's transport capacity, further solidifying Ischgl's position as a leading ski destination in Europe.

The upgrade will occur in two phases. During the 2025-26 season, two new lifts will be installed. The Höllboden C1 lift will replace a 23-year-old chairlift, increasing capacity to 4,200 passengers per hour with a four-minute ride time. Its alignment will change slightly, with the top terminal relocating between pistes 10 and 11. The Sassgalun C3 lift will replace a six-person chairlift, accommodating 3,400 people per hour with a swift 1.7-minute journey.

The third lift, Höllkar C2, is scheduled for the 2026-27 season. It will be the longest of the new installations, carrying 4,200 passengers per hour over a 5.1-minute ride. All three new lifts will feature heated seats and protective bubbles, enhancing the comfort of skiers and snowboarders during ascents.

These upgrades reflect a broader trend in European ski resorts, where lift technology often surpasses that found in North American resorts. The new lifts at Ischgl will serve a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced terrain, catering to a wide range of skill levels.

Ischgl is part of the Silvretta Arena ski area, known for its extensive terrain and modern facilities. The resort's commitment to upgrading its infrastructure demonstrates its dedication to providing a top-tier skiing experience. With these improvements and Ischgl's recent addition to the Ikon Pass for the upcoming winter season, the resort is positioning itself as an attractive destination for both European and international visitors seeking a high-quality ski holiday.
