Mont Sutton Unveils Major Chairlift Upgrade Plan
Mont Sutton has announced plans to install a new quadruple chairlift with a boarding mat for the 2026-2027 ski season. This $8 million investment is part of the resort's strategic development plan aimed at enhancing the overall skier experience. The new lift, manufactured by SkyTrac, a division of Leitner Poma, will be the first of its kind in Canada and will have a capacity of 2,400 people per hour.

The new chairlift will be located in the western sector of the mountain, focusing on improving access for beginners and families. It will feature RFID access terminals and will be accompanied by improvements to the learning area, including the relocation of the current magic carpet and the addition of a second introductory carpet. The project also includes upgrades to the snowmaking system in the vicinity of the new lift.
Jean-Michel Ryan, President and CEO of Mont Sutton, expressed pride in this acquisition, stating that it meets all the essential criteria sought by the resort. The new lift will replace three existing double lifts, streamlining operations and improving the distribution of skiers across the mountain.

This development is part of a larger investment strategy at Mont Sutton. Since 2016, the resort has invested over $12 million in various improvements, including enhancing snowmaking capabilities and diversifying into four-season activities. The new chairlift project, supported by a $5 million grant from the Quebec Government's Tourism Industry Recovery Assistance Program (PARIT), is part of a $11 million investment phase.
Mont Sutton has been expanding its offerings beyond skiing, adding attractions such as a 1 km zip line, disc golf, summit camping, mountain biking, and chairlift rides for summer visitors. These developments aim to position Mont Sutton as a year-round destination in the Eastern Townships. As the resort approaches its 65th season, this new chairlift represents the largest single investment in its history, signalling a commitment to modernisation and improved skier services.
