Sundance Mountain Resort Unveils Major Expansion Plans
Sundance Mountain Resort in Utah has revealed plans for a significant upgrade to its facilities. The resort will introduce a new high-speed quad lift and expand its skiable terrain by 165 acres for the 2026-27 winter season. This development marks the largest expansion at Sundance since 1985, aiming to improve the overall skiing and snowboarding experience.
The centrepiece of this expansion is the Electric Horseman Express, a Doppelmayr-manufactured high-speed quad lift. This new lift will transport skiers and riders from near the base of the Wildwood Lift, across the Far East Ridge, to the summit at Bearclaw. The lift will provide access to both new and existing terrain on the 'back mountain', offering top-to-bottom runs.
The terrain expansion includes two new areas, adding 165 acres of skiable land with an impressive 1,850 feet of continuous vertical drop. Skiers and riders will have access to a new bowl adjacent to Bishop's Bowl and several new trails. These additions are set to diversify the resort's offerings and cater to a range of skill levels.
Chad Linebaugh, President and General Manager of Sundance Mountain Resort, emphasised that this project is the culmination of four years of on-mountain improvements. Previous upgrades include the Outlaw Express Lift in 2021, the Wildwood Lift and terrain expansion in 2022, and significant enhancements to the snowmaking system.
The resort is also developing new accommodations to complement the terrain expansion. The Inn at Sundance Mountain Resort, a ski-in/ski-out lodging option, is scheduled to open in early 2026. Visitors will get a sneak peek of the new Far East terrain during the 2025-26 season, with full operations commencing in the 2026-27 winter season. These developments are part of Sundance Mountain Resort's 'Act II' improvements, aimed at modernising the resort and enhancing the visitor experience.
