Telluride Ski Resort Unveils Plans for Lift Replacements and On-Mountain Improvements
Telluride Ski Resort in Colorado has put forward a series of proposals to upgrade its facilities and enhance the skiing experience. The plans, which are part of the resort's updated Master Plan, include replacing two older chairlifts, improving ski trails, and expanding on-mountain dining options. These proposed changes aim to modernise the resort's infrastructure and cater to a wider range of skiers and riders.

The main focus of Telluride's proposal is the replacement of two longstanding chairlifts. Lift 7, a fixed-grip double installed in 1975, could be upgraded to either a fixed-grip triple, fixed-grip quad, or detachable high-speed quad. Similarly, Lift 8, dating back to 1972, might be replaced with a fixed-grip double, triple, or quad. These upgrades would maintain similar alignments to the current lifts while potentially increasing uphill capacity and improving the overall guest experience.
In addition to the lift replacements, Telluride has outlined several trail improvements. A new Lift 9 Jaws Skiway trail is proposed to provide an easier route for less experienced skiers from the top of a challenging area. This trail would include snowmaking capabilities to allow for earlier openings. The resort also plans to widen the Galloping Goose Skiway, which would involve some tree removal and grading over 2.7 acres.

Perhaps the most significant change proposed is the expansion of the High Camp Hut. Currently limited in its food service capabilities due to a previous legal settlement, Telluride aims to expand the building by about 2000 square feet to create a full-service restaurant. The resort claims there is now widespread support for this development from both guests and the local community.
Telluride Ski Resort, known for its stunning views and diverse terrain, continues to evolve with these proposed upgrades. The resort offers 148 trails across 2,000+ acres, with a vertical drop of 4,425 feet. Its location in the San Juan Mountains provides a unique skiing experience, combining challenging slopes with breathtaking scenery. As Telluride moves forward with these plans, the resort aims to enhance its appeal to both seasoned skiers and newcomers alike, solidifying its position as a premier ski destination in Colorado.
