Thredbo Triple Crown Joins FIS Circuit
Thredbo Resort and Snow Australia have announced a significant development for Australian freestyle skiing and snowboarding. The Thredbo Triple Crown Slopestyle and Big Air events will now be officially sanctioned by the International Ski Federation (FIS) and included in the Australian New Zealand Cup (ANC) Series. This change marks a substantial step forward for Australia's freestyle snow sports, offering skiers and riders more chances to gain international recognition and FIS points.

The 2025 Thredbo Triple Crown Series, sponsored by Boost Mobile, will host the first park FIS events in Australia since 2022. FIS-registered competitors will have the opportunity to earn points across Youth, Junior, and Open categories, with judging based on the official FIS point scale. This setup allows participants to accumulate FIS points while also competing for a share of the $60,000 prize pool, creating dual pathways for recognition and career advancement.
Johnny Lipzker from Snow Australia highlighted the significance of this development, stating that it provides a meaningful competition experience for athletes at home. The FIS points earned can help qualify skiers and riders for international events, including the Europa Cup and potentially the Olympic Games.
Sam Noller, Thredbo's Event Manager, emphasised the resort's commitment to freestyle progression, viewing the partnership with Snow Australia as a way to offer a high-quality competitive platform for athletes aiming to launch international careers from Australia.
The ANC series winner, determined by results from two Slopestyle events and one Big Air competition, will secure a personal World Cup quota spot for the 2025/26 season. This opportunity is particularly important for Australian athletes looking to qualify for the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games.
Thredbo Resort, located in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, has long been a hub for freestyle skiing and snowboarding in Australia. With its terrain parks and natural features, Thredbo provides an ideal setting for these high-level competitions. The resort's investment in freestyle facilities and events like the Triple Crown demonstrates its ongoing support for the development of snow sports in Australia.
The Thredbo Triple Crown Slopestyle event is scheduled for August 1, with the Big Air competition following on August 25. These events are set to attract top talent from Australia and New Zealand, further cementing Thredbo's position as a leading ski resort for freestyle competition in the Southern Hemisphere.
